Could we see some of Young Ian’s transformation in Outlander Season 5?
Young Ian has been adopted into the Mohawk tribe. It’s time for his transformation but is that something we’ll see in Outlander Season 5?
Caution: There are spoilers from “The Fiery Cross,” which Outlander Season 5 is based on.
At the end of Outlander Season 4, Young Ian became a “man of worth.” He chose to offer himself as tribute a fair trade for Roger and was adopted into the Mohawk tribe. Now it’s time for a transformation but is that something we’ll get to see during the fifth season?
The transformation isn’t shown in the books. Due to the way the stories are written, we never get to see what Young Ian goes through when with the Mohawk tribe. Instead, the Frasers find out about it when Young Ian eventually returns. If the show follows the books, then we won’t get a chance to see the transformation take place.

While it would be fun for the show to offer some of this, there’s the problem of time. With only 12 episodes for the fifth season, time is already short. There’s just too much to add in to throw in another side storyline that isn’t overly necessary.
Season 5 will already have more focus on Brianna and Roger, Marsali and Fergus, and Murtagh (and Jocasta?). There may even be some Lord John Grey moments, even though the books don’t include him in person.
Many fans complained about the growing focus on other characters, wanting more time to be focused on Claire and Jamie. There were complaints about bringing in storylines that weren’t in the book and then skipping out moments that were. Adding more of Young Ian’s transformation would just lead to more complaints, despite the transformation being fascinating.
I don’t think we’ll get anything of Young Ian throughout the fifth season. If the show was network TV length, there would be a chance to offer an episode, but not with just 12 episodes.
