Outlander Season 5: Will we get to see Young Ian again?

There are a lot of questions about what’s to come for Outlander Season 5. One of the big questions is whether we’ll get to see Young Ian again.

Outlander Season 4 ended the way book readers expected when it came to Young Ian. He chose to trade himself for Roger and ran the gauntlet to prove he was worthy to be adopted into the tribe. Now the big question for Outlander Season 5 is whether he’ll return.

I could tell you the book storyline but I know there are people out there who don’t read the books. They want to go into the show spoiler-free, so I’m going to keep this post to just speculation of what could happen. Besides, with the changes the show has already made, what are the chances that this storyline could change?

This clearly isn’t going to be the end of John Bell in Outlander. It would be crazy to get rid of such a young actor. It would also be crazy to get rid of Young Ian permanently. There’s still so much to come for this single character, so much development available.

Over the last season and a half, we’ve watched Young Ian go from a young Scottish boy who keeps running away from home to becoming a man of worth. He’s had the chance to explore the New World and everything that comes with it, meeting his uncle’s godfather, his great-aunt, and a cousin he had no idea about.

This is a young man who has wanted to see the Natives and learn their ways. He’ll get the chance to do that even more than ever before as a member of the Mohawk tribe. There is far more opportunities for character development.

With already upset over more focus on Brianna and Roger, it’s unlikely that we’ll witness Young Ian’s story as it happens. The Mohawks sometimes go to North Carolina to trade with the Cherokees and others, so Young Ian could become a member of one of those parties so Jamie finds out what’s become of his nephew.
