As Roger was left away, he said “that’s it, lads. Take me back to the idiot hut.” He knew exactly where he was going after deciding that he couldn’t let the priest suffer before death.
This isn’t the first time a final line has been jumbled or not quite heard. I remember in Season 2’s “Prestonpans” wondering what Angus had said as he died (it was “help me, Mistresses” for those wondering).
The difficulty in hearing sometimes adds to the tension in the episode. That’s what it did in “Providence.” It felt like part of the line was meant to be jumbled or misheard. He was mumbling to himself and you know how you can sometimes just want to say something under your breath to avoid others hearing.
This moment was just Roger making it clear he knew what was going to happen next. He’d just got free but he couldn’t just look out for number one. He had resigned to what would happen next.
