Outlander Season 4, Episode 7 delivered a lot of symmetry for previous episodes. One of those moments was Brianna’s trek through Scotland.
When Brianna stepped through the stones, she was alone, cold, and had a long journey ahead of her. Outlander Season 4, Episode 7 delivered some symmetry for a Season 3 episode. Remember the time Claire was lost in the jungle?
Both episodes have received the same mixed reactions. I have a love-hate relationship with Claire’s trek through the jungle. Sometimes I love the journey we saw our leading lady on but there are other times I want more from the episode. And that’s exactly how I felt in Sunday’s episode.

“Down the Rabbit Hole” showed us how Claire and Brianna are very different people. While Claire knew how to survive, Brianna made some silly little decisions. Look at Claire taking plenty of provisions to the past with her, whereas Brianna packed one peanut butter and jelly sandwich; just the one!
Then there was the trek through the wilderness. Growing up on the go with her Uncle Lamb, Claire knew a little about survival. She managed to care for the ant bites on her leg because of her medical skills while knowing to remain still as the snake slithered over her. Although Brianna was able to ice her foot after spraining it, she didn’t have the best skills when it came to finding shelter and surviving the wilderness.
Both episodes also had the mirror of finding something before collapsing. Claire saw a man in the distance, who happened to be the priest who helped her. Meanwhile, Brianna saw Laoghaire’s house. Both women were rescued, allowed to stay until they were well and both feeling the need to escape at the very end.
While there may be some unhappy with Brianna limping through the Highlands, it was an important part of the episode. It gave us more character development for Bree, seeing what she can do to survive and that she has a long way to go if she wants to make it in the 18th century.
