For those who have always hated Laoghaire, the Outlander Season 4, Episode 7 sneak peek brings a side to her never expected. It’s a side I’ll admit I always knew she had.

There’s a lot of hate for Laoghaire MacKenzie in the Outlander fandom. I don’t join in that hate (although that doesn’t mean I like her all the time) and I’m glad to see that the Outlander Season 4, Episode 7 sneak peek gives us a softer side to the character.

W Network shares the sneak peek this week. It’s a diversion from the books entirely, likely linked to the fact that Jenny Fraser Murray isn’t going to be part of the season. The writers have managed to bring a sense of irony into the episode with this scene.

In “Down the Rabbit Hole,” Brianna is going to step through the stones and end up in the past. That means finding her way from the Standing Stones to the next part of her journey. She’s going around Lallybroch, with the idea of heading straight to Ayr Harbour.

Whether this is a smart move or not isn’t up for debate right now. What is important from this sneak peek is Laoghaire’s welcoming and caring nature. With no idea about who Brianna is, she brings Brianna home and makes sure she’s warmed up.

It’s easy to see from this why Marsali and Joanie will love her so much. It’s not just that Laoghaire is their mother, but she’s clearly been a warm and nurturing force in their lives. The hatred Laoghaire has is purely for Claire and, in a way, I get that. I’ve shared why I don’t hate Laoghaire in a previous post and my thoughts about Laoghaire still stand now.

I know there are going to be many who dislike the change. For the situation the production has found itself in without Laura Donnelly, this was a smart move in my opinion. While I love “Drums of Autumn” (currently listening on Audible), I have enjoyed seeing the changes big and small in the production to make the TV show fresh.
