It’s almost time for Outlander Season 4 and right now there are plenty of questions of how closely the show will stick to the book “Drums of Autumn.” Will Jenny show up this season?
With just 24 hours until Outlander Season 4 premieres on the STARZ channel, there are plenty of questions of things to come. Fans of “Drums of Autumn” want to know if certain characters will return and one of those is Jenny Fraser Murray.
Of course, this will include some spoilers. There are also spoilers for those who have read the books, which should give a clue to the answer.
If you don’t want spoilers, I highly recommend looking back at Claire and Jamie’s 25 best moments throughout the series so far. Still here? Okay then!

In the books, she certainly does return. There are some beautiful moments when Brianna travels through the stones. Unfortunately, those moments aren’t going to happen because Laura Donnelly won’t be in the show, according to an interview with W Magazine.
While talking about her role on Broadway’s The Ferryman and how that role came about, discussion of Jenny in Outlander came up. Because of her schedule, she didn’t have time to film anything for Outlander Season 4. While Jenny is in the books, she’s not going to be in the season.
That is certainly going to be disappointing for the book fans. As I said, there’s a moment between Jenny and Brianna. We all hoped we’d see some of those moments play out on the screen. Instead, those moments may have to be taken up by Ian Murray, Brianna’s uncle by marriage. Steven Cree’s schedule was a little more fluid with much of his work in Scotland instead of New York.
It also looks like Jenny won’t show up again in the future. Well, Laura Donnelly won’t play the role if it is. Jenny is only mentioned in Books 5 and 6. By the time she appears in Book 7, she’s changed and that means the show could get away with hiring another actress.
Of course, this isn’t happening with Caitriona Balfe and Jamie Fraser, but Laura has made it clear that she’ll only do projects that she enjoys and wants to do. Outlander may not be on that list by the time it comes to her being in the show again.
It’s going to be interesting to see how the Outlander showrunners managed this change. It’s going to be disappointing to see the change in Outlander Season 4, but this is what happens when actors are guest stars. They don’t have the types of contracts to make sure they’re available when the show needs them.

Outlander Season 4 premieres tomorrow at 8/7c on STARZ.
