Outlander Season 4 spoilers: The stolen ring storyline will change for a good reason
Outlander Season 4 screened for those at the Savannah Film Festival and followed with a panel with the EPs and stars. One change to the storyline was mentioned and it’s for a good reason.
For the majority of people, Sunday night will be the first chance to see Outlander Season 4’s premiere. Others have had the chance to see screenings at the likes of NYCC and the Savannah Film Festival. After the panel at the Savannah Film Festival, the EPs and cast discussed events in the premiere and the reasons behind some of the changes and there’s one moment that has been changed for good reason.
I’ll say now that there are spoilers in this post. This includes for those who have read the books. After all, it’s a change from the book storyline about a stolen ring.
If you’re still here, you either know what the change is or you’re curious. Let’s continue.

During “Drums of Autumn,” Stephen Bonnet steals from Claire. As a pirate, he’s always after treasure and he decides he wants Claire’s rings. Fans of the books will know that he only gets away with one because Claire steals the other.
In Outlander Season 4, Episode 1, Stephen Bonnet is still going to steal a ring but it’s going to be the opposite ring. Instead of taking Frank’s, he’ll end up with Jamie’s. I don’t want to give away the full details of the scene for those who haven’t had the chance to watch the episode yet. However, book fans will recognize the events and, I believe, will be happy with the scene.
But why the change? Well, it’s very simple: Frank’s wedding band is too plain. The ring plays a part in a future scene with Brianna, so it needs to be something she’d recognize straight away. While she’d recognize the gold band, she wouldn’t immediately believe that it was Claire’s. There’s nothing to even make her suspect it.
Jamie’s ring is significant and unique. Brianna would immediately know that it belonged to her mother, allowing that storyline to play out as the books says.
Watching it, I do believe book fans will enjoy the change. It’s one of those that isn’t overly different but the change is for an excellent reason. Plus, there is build up to this. Losing Jamie’s ring means far more to Claire.
