Outlander Season 4 should start with the two meeting. Young Ian doesn’t want to see the hanging in Charleston, and he accidentally finds himself gambling. Fortunately, he wins and the prize is the half-wolf, half-dog, Rollo.
It’s friendship at first sight. As much as Claire is wary, Young Ian isn’t going to give up his pet. It’s an instant show of devotion and love, which is important for the whole story.
This love and devotion aren’t one-sided, either. Rollo knows that Young Ian loves him and will protect him, which is why Rollo is extremely obedient, loyal, protective, and loving back. One doesn’t go very far without the other.
A bond to help Young Ian grow
Rollo is the best thing that can happen to Young Ian at such an early time in “Drums of Autumn.” Young Ian grows up to become a respectable and thoughtful young man, caring and protective of his family. In a way, having Rollo by his side helps that.
They learn things from each other. We can also learn more from Rollo’s actions.
It’s going to be fun to see how Young Ian and Rollo are shown on screen. This is one of those adorable, beautiful friendships that is perfect for Outlander Season 4.
