Rollo was the first new character to be cast in Outlander Season 4. Who is Rollo, you ask? Well, he’s a dog but there were two pups cast for the role. This is similar to the way that twins tend to be cast for roles of babies and toddlers to help minimize time on screen for each twin. Now the two pups are all grown up.
The two certainly look happy on the set. They were spotted playing around in the woodland. The early casting did mean the two pups would get used to the main actors on the set and the crew, and the decision certainly seems to have paid off. It’s important, since Rollo will be an important member of the Clan Fraser during their time in the Colonies.
Rollo doesn’t spend a lot of time with the characters in the book, except for Young Ian. This may change in the series, but there’s nothing to hint at this idea. For those who haven’t read the books, Rollo is a wolf hybrid and seems to take after Jamie and Claire for the ability to get into trouble wherever he goes! He certainly fits in with the clan!
The point of Rollo is to look menacing, which is mighty difficult with young pups. However, the two have grown into excellent additions to the series. Let’s just hope the two will steal the hearts of fans just like Bouton during the second season.
Fans have been able to catch photos of the cast and crew filming around Scotland. Some of those photos include a grown up Rollo. Catch the clips in the video below.
