Why a Lord John Grey Outlander spin-off would work so well
When it comes to spin-offs, some work perfectly and others flop. A Lord John Grey Outlander spin-off would be perfect and here’s why.
Many shows attempt to turn into a franchise through spin-offs. Some of them are successful, such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, and NCIS. Others dive bombed, such as Criminal Minds and attempts for Supernatural. When it comes to an Outlander spin-off, focusing on Lord John Grey would certainly be like the former shows.
A Lord John Grey spin-off series, whether a mini one or a fuller length like Outlander, would be perfect. Fans of the original show would flock to it and there’s one main reason why.

Fans love Lord John Grey. David Berry has become this character and the character overall has been written so well. He’s thoughtful, kind, and a good soul in a cruel world. When he has a debt, he pays it. When he makes a promise, he follows through. This is a man you can trust.
People already adore him, which means they’ll be willing to follow him onto his own show. It’s not like there isn’t a lot to learn about him, either. We’ve only heard part of his story, as most of Outlander is focused on Claire and Jamie.
On top of this, there are already novellas about the character. Fans already have an Outlander spin-off to read. It would be simple for the showrunners to take those stories and develop them into a spin-off series of their own.
If the showrunners ever wanted to fill Droughtlander with another show or wanted to continue this series in some way, Lord John Grey is most certainly the character to look towards. Even Outlander author Diana Gabaldon is up for a series based on him. Now we just have to hope David Berry is.
