It’s impossible not to like Lord John Grey, right? Well, maybe it’s time to get an Outlander spin-off TV series based on the adorable, honorable officer.
Lord John Grey is an officer and a gentleman. When he makes a promise he sticks to it. It’s no wonder that Outlander fans fell in love with David Berry’s character in the third season. Now it could be time for a Lord John Grey Outlander spin-off series.
We already have the novels. Diana Gabaldon has created novellas about the British officer, sharing his time in Ardsmuir and his thoughts about Jamie and everything that has happened over the years. This has been a chance to get more of an insight into this character that becomes so much more important in the main book series.
Jamie and John have this special bond that can never be truly broken. In the books, they’re not on speaking terms, but things may be changing in the ninth book. There’s hope that by the end, the two are friends again.

Outlander Season 3 just gave us the start of this story and we instantly fell in love. Whether it was the character or David Berry’s portrayal (or most likely both), fans were instantly hooked and there are a bunch of fans out there who would love to see more of him.
I certainly would!
Author Diana Gabaldon is also up for an Outlander spin-off series with Lord John Grey. That is if David Berry is up for it — and maybe Sam Heughan, but this would depend on where and when the spin-off is set. This isn’t a spin-off that would work with another actor in the role, so the stars (and Starz) would need to align.
This would take a lot of discussing, negotiating, and planning. While many fans would love to see a Lord John Grey miniseries to happen during the next Droughtlander, it’s highly unlikely. Even if all was confirmed now, the writing and filming would take a similar length of time (maybe half if only six to eight episodes) to filming Outlander.
