A recent Men’s Journal article included an interesting comment about the break in Outlander filming. It’s not the break we expected, so just exactly how long is this filming break going to be?

Outlander filming has wrapped for the fourth season and now we’re looking ahead at the fifth. Caitriona Balfe told fans that we’d get a seven-month break and Cesar Domboy shared that he’d return for filming in February–that’s the seven months right there. However, a Men’s Journal article shared that Sam Heughan was getting a two-month hiatus from filming.

So, exactly how long is this break in filming going to be? Is it really only going to be two months or has there been a misprint somewhere?

It’s really only one line from the article, which states:

"Part of Heughan’s two-month hiatus from filming Outlander…"

This could certainly be a mistake. After all, during July, Heughan is going to be working on his next movie, Bloodshot. While we don’t have an end date, it’s likely going to take two to three months of filming/ We also know that Balfe is filming the Ford vs. Ferrari movie, which starts in August and is expected to run until October.

Balfe and Domboy are likely more on the mark for when filming will pick back up again. After all, they’ll all be needed at the same time. Outlander Season 5 isn’t like the third season, where Jamie and Claire are separated for a long stretch of the season. They’re together and that means filming together.

The article possibly meant that two months of the hiatus from filming rather than “part of” the “two-month” hiatus.

This is something we’ll have to wait and see, but the seven-month hiatus seems more likely with previous statements and filming schedules.
