San Diego Comic-Con is coming to an end today. Now is the time to look ahead at NYCC 2018 and Outlander’s appearance. Could a full look at the Season 4 premiere be in store?

San Diego Comic-Con just wasn’t the same without an appearance from Claire and Jamie. However, the lack of appearance does make sense and we do have NYCC 2018 to look forward to. There’s a lot that we want to see, but one of the biggest questions is whether the Outlander Season 4 premiere will air in full.

The only reason this has come up so much lately is because SDCC 2018 saw a number of shows air their premieres exclusively for con-goers. Most of them were new shows, but on Friday, Wynonna Earp fans got an exclusive look at the Season 3 premiere. This is a show with a rapidly growing fanbase now but without too much promotion, similar to Claire and Jamie.

More from Opinion

Earlier this year, Timeless‘ second season premiere also aired at an event exclusively for fans. The idea was that it would bring some buzz and it was fun for those involved. Supernatural fans also had the chance to see “Scoobynatural” at PaleyFest back in March.

Despite the world of technology, spoilers didn’t leak. Fans and press respected the decision to air the episodes ahead of time for some teasery buzz. Could Starz see the benefit and decide to air the premiere of the fourth season at NYCC 2018?

There’s no real reason not to. The downside of airing it, though, would be that it takes time out of the panel schedule. Of course, the con could organize a separate time for the screening ahead of the panel, so the focus at the panel can remain on the Q&A. Promotion has been minimal for Outlander. This could be just what we need!

The only reason I can see against it is timing. With the premiere airing in November, it would be a long time to keep spoilers a secret. However, NBC and The CW are risking it with Manifest and Charmed. Both shows screened their pilots ready for airing in September and October respectively. Honestly, there’s no real reason not to have an advance screening of the fourth season premiere.
