Why is Outlander skipping SDCC 2018? Why are they not at Comic-Con?

Outlander won’t have a panel at Outlander SDCC 2018. The cast is saving it all for NYCC 2018 and this is a chance to speculate why.

In case you missed it, Outlander won’t be attending SDCC 2018. There are no panels or press rooms set. In fact, it’s like the whole show has been forgotten. This isn’t a snub of the show, though. There’s likely a strategic reason behind the series skipping the event this year.

It’s all to do with timing. Outlander Season 4 isn’t premiering until November 2018. That’s a long way away yet–not that you needed reminding Droughtlander still has a good three-and-a-half months to go. Most of the shows at SDCC will premiere in the summer or in September/early October. It makes sense for them to be at the convention.

In fact, last year, Outlander was at SDCC and did premiere in September. So, it makes sense to skip it now.

New York Comic-Con will take place in October. It’s the first weekend in October and has started to grow in popularity for shows. The timing is far better for a November start-date, so it’s not surprising Outlander is holding off for that.

Schedules will also cause a problem

We’ve also got to remember that Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan have projects this summer. Both are filming new movies and they won’t be able to take time out for SDCC 2018. The showrunners are also onto the editing part of the process and won’t want to take a break if they don’t need to.

Not going to SDCC will also help to save money. Outlander is an expensive show, so more money on the production available the better!
