Outlander Season 5: When will the writers room get together?

We may still be months away from Outlander Season 4 premiering on Starz, but we’re already looking forward to Season 5. The big question right now is when the writers room will reconvene.

Outlander Season 4 hasn’t even finished filming and we’re already looking for details on the fifth season. One of the big questions is about the writers. After all, without the scripts, Outlander Season 5 production can’t start. So, when will the writers room get together again?

It’s impossible to give an exact date, since nobody in the production team is open about specific dates. However, the writing team usually gathers a few months before the actors are needed. Since filming for the fifth season is going to start in February, it’s highly likely that the writers will need to get together sometime in the fall. It will likely be before the fourth season premieres.

The earlier the better for writing Outlander Season 5. There’s the Christmas break to consider. Last year, the writers worked through Christmas, making sure the final episodes of the season were ready for filming this spring. However, the production team has the chance to plan a little differently this year. With a February start-date instead of a September one for filming, a break over Christmas for the writers can be planned in.

Writing needs to happen to know the exact characters needed for the season, allowing for the casting notices. Some of this can be done through pre-planning the writing.

We know that the prep work for Outlander Season 5 has already started. Showrunner Matt B. Roberts has shared he’s reading through “The Fiery Cross” again. Right now, we’re assuming that the fifth season will only be based on this book, but showrunner Ron D. Moore has previously said that they always talk about the possibilities of combining books or only doing half-books per season. This could be the time for that, especially with The Gathering taking up a lot of time in the novel but possibly not a lot of time in the series.
