Outlander Season 4 theories: Will something happen to Claire’s ring from Jamie?
Recent fan photos suggest that Claire is getting a new ring in Outlander Season 4. Does that mean something will happen to the ring from Jamie and not from Frank?
While filming in Cumbernauld Glen, Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe stopped for autographs with fans. Fans spotted Balfe wearing a different silver ring to the one we’ve been used to seeing, suggesting that Claire will get a new ring from Jamie in Outlander Season 4. This has led to a discussion about why that would be the case and there’s one theory that many fans like.

Of course, not all fans want to see moments from the novels changed. However, sometimes needs must and other times they make a better creative choice. Something happening to Jamie’s ring could certainly be more of a creative choice.
In the novels, Claire’s ring from Frank is stolen by a certain pirate, Stephen Bonnet. Brianna immediately recognizes the ring she has seen her mother wear for so long and is able to arrange to get it back and return it to her mother. It looks like rather than Frank’s ring that it will be the one from Jamie that is stolen.

Why change the rings stolen in Outlander Season 4?
Fans who want the show to remain as loyal as possible to the books want to know why the writers would change the ring that is stolen. There are two suggested reasons:
- Frank’s ring is too plain for Brianna to recognize when she sees it; she could think it’s anyone’s gold band. Meanwhile, Jamie’s stands out more and Brianna would recognize it since in the show she has worn it for so many years.
- Stephen Bonnet could steal both rings. Jamie is able to replace the one he got Claire with something more durable and valuable.
This is going to be something we’ll have to wait and see. Of course, it could be that nothing happens to the ring. Jamie is just now able to buy Claire a more valuable ring–although she’d need an important reason to get rid of the ring made from the key to Lallybroch after all these years.
