On May 2, 1946, Claire Randall accidentally fell through the stones at Craig na Dun, landing in 1743. What could have happened if that never happened?
On this day in Outlander history, Claire Randall’s life changed forever. While on her honeymoon with Frank Randall in 1946, she fell through the stones at Craig na Dun and landed in 1743. The moment she fell through the stones, she had a knock-on effect in history. Considering the help she offered, here’s what could have happened had Claire not traveled through the stones.
#1. Jamie would likely have been permanently injured
Claire’s first steps to helping the clansmen on the road that night was to repair Jamie’s shoulder. If she hadn’t been there, Rupert would have fixed Jamie’s dislocation but broken his arm at the same time. He would have been permanently injured, suffering from the aftermath of the break.

That would have had a direct effect on Jamie’s abilities. Fortunately, it was his right arm so not his fighting arm, but it would have still limited his abilities in a fight.
#2. The MacKenzie clansmen would have been killed
Later, Claire is able to warn the MacKenzies of how the British soldiers would scout from a certain position. Surprisingly, Dougal and the others didn’t know about this (considering they would have traveled this road before, I’d have thought they would but never mind) Claire gave them the advantage. Had she not been there, the clansmen would have been ambushed.
By this point, Jamie would have had a broken arm. He wouldn’t have been able to fight as well as he could with a dislocated shoulder. There’s also a chance others would have been killed in the battle. Claire potentially saved everyone’s lives.
Even if they weren’t killed in the battle, they could have died in the aftermath. Claire helped to heal Jamie’s gunshot would and it would have likely festered along the way otherwise.
May 2 was a fateful day for Claire Randall. It was the day that would push Claire into Jamie’s life, saving him in the process.
