Outlander 3×09 deleted scene: Should this conversation have been kept?
Sometimes it’s easy to see why a deleted scene didn’t quite make the cut, but there an Outlander 3×09 deleted scene that was possibly necessary. Do you think this was right being deleted?
Every year, Outlander releases some of the deleted scenes. While in many cases you can see why they were cut, there are always one or two a year that you just wish had made it. That’s likely the case with this Outlander 3×09 deleted scene.
Ron D. Moore starts off in the clip sharing a little about it, including the elements you’ll see the editing guys have to cut out. It is a lot of extra work, but surely that couldn’t be why the showrunners decided to cut out the clip in the end. Had this been kept, there would have likely been fewer complaints about Jamie and Claire’s reunion.

One of the bugbears was how little Claire and Jamie spoke about Brianna. The deleted scene, set during the “Goodnight Moon” scene would have helped get rid of the justifiable complaints. Not only do Claire and Jamie discuss Brianna and everything that women get to do in the future, but there was also discussion about Geneva and Lord John Grey.
The scene also showed us much more of the emotions Jamie was feeling during the voyage to Jamaica. He isn’t just grieving the lost time with Brianna and Willie, but shares his disappointment in himself with regards to Young Ian. It’s a beautiful insight that would have been perfect to help show how close Claire and Jamie still are after 20 years apart.

It’s difficult to understand what goes through the minds of showrunners. Maybe they decided to cut the scene to give something special to those who bought the DVD and Blu-Ray set. But honestly, this scene should not have been cut.
