Outlander book fans are getting excited for the upcoming turtle soup scene from Voyager, but what’s so important about it?
If you’ve been in the Outlander Facebook groups you may have noticed a lot of talk about “turtle soup.” It was originally the title of episode 11, but it’s more than just that. The turtle soup scene is a comical moment in the novel. It’s one of the standout moments like the print shop scene and Laoghaire at Lallybroch that fans have waited months (and in some cases years) to be adapted.
Caution: There are spoilers from the books moving forward.
What’s the deal with turtle soup?
The scene gets its name from the food on offer. Jamie provides Claire with turtle soup, after she’s injured and requires penicillin to fight the infection growing. However, Jamie adds too much sherry to the soup, so in Claire’s already weakened state she becomes extremely drunk.

As expected, drunk Claire wants to have sex with her husband. All of this is on a rocking boat and Jamie initially wants to resist. However, he soon finds himself wanting his wife more. Needless to say, they definitely end up having sex.
Yet all this happens when there’s someone on the other side of the door. Jamie has to have a conversation with the guy, who just wants to make sure Claire is recovering.
Will it be another disappointment?
The problem with eagerly anticipating a scene is that people can expect too much. They over anticipate the storyline and have high expectations to match the scene they saw in their head. Not everyone gets the same image, which can make adaptations slightly disappointing for some. This could turn out to be disappointing like the print shop scene was for some.
For the show-only or show-first fans, the turtle soup scene will just likely be another one to add to the Claire/Jamie love making scenes. There will be heat, passion, and humor at the same time.
