A certain character died in Outlander Season 3, Episode 10 but Claire missed the signs showing he was getting ill. Did you?

For those who haven’t caught up with the episode, there’s a major spoiler in this piece. Hence the spoiler warning in the title. If you read on from this point and haven’t watched it, you will find out who dies at the end of Outlander Season 3, Episode 10.

With that out of the way, it’s time to get onto the foreshadowing of this death. Throughout the episode, Outlander hinted that Elias Pound was going to die. Claire said at the end that she’d missed all the signs, and so did many fans. While book-lovers knew he would die and show-first fans likely had a feeling either he or the captain was going to die, it wasn’t until the very end that the confirmation came.

More from Spoilers

Pound giving Claire the rabbit’s foot was the first foreshadowing moment that something was going to happen. He’d been given that for good luck and everyone knows you don’t give away your lucky charm. That brings bad luck onto yourself. As a Supernatural fan, it was clear that death was coming for him just from that moment.

However, it was the pale face and clamminess that hinted that Elias’s death was coming. These were the signs Claire missed, overlooking them as tiredness. And who else didn’t consider tiredness at first? He’d been up all night looking after someone who had alcohol poisoning. At 14-years-old his body was still developing and he would have needed sleep. Looking pale and disorientated was perfectly understandable.

He would also continually touch his clothes. Claire had told him not to do that while dealing with the sick, but it would have been natural for him to do so. Straightening out the jacket is still a natural thing to do. This was a hint that by going against doctor’s orders he was going to catch the disease that was killing so many crewmen.

It was a sad death, but the scenes between Elias and Claire allowed fans to see the motherly instincts in Claire. She would have done anything to save this boy from the disease, but needed his help at the same time. However, there was foreshadowing throughout the episode that he wasn’t going to make it, whether you knew the book storyline or not.
