It’s been a long wait, but the Outlander season 8 trailer is here. There are snippets from the teasers, but we also get some fresh scenes that hint at death, war, and also hope.

The trailer certainly makes it clear that Brianna and Roger head back to the 1770s, and Brianna brings a book with her. “Soul of a Rebel” was Frank Randall’s last book, published after everyone initially went through the stones, so nobody knew what he had learned about Jamie Fraser.

Now we know. Frank learns that war will come to the backcountry. There will be a battle at Kings Mountain, and Jamie will die in it. Of course, that threat is the main focus of the Outlander season 8 trailer, but there are other teases of things to come that we can’t overlook.

Will THAT devastating storyline from the books change on Outlander season 8?

There is a sense of hope that comes with this trailer. The Outlander season 8 teasers have hinted that a particular devastating storyline is coming. Many people are ready for the heartbreak of losing Henri-Christian, but the trailer hints that something may change.

Yes, there’s a fire at the print shop, and yes, Henri-Christian and Germain are on the roof. However, they’re not going to be alone. Fergus is spotted rushing out onto the roof, where his sons are huddled together in the hope that someone will save them. Fergus didn’t make it to the roof in the books, so this change offers hope that he will find a way to get everyone down safely, because we all know that this family deserves happiness after everything they’ve been through.

However, there is another quick clip of Brianna and Marsali, with both of them in tears. It just gets us ready for devastation, and now I'm hoping that the devastation isn't heavier because of how Fergus ends up on the roof!

There is a “death” that could happen on Outlander season 8

There’s another tease of a storyline from the books. We see William, dressed in civilian clothing, at a grave. Those who know the books will know that William gets a big storyline in Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone, where he has to go in search for his cousin, Benjamin Grey.

It’s possible that this will come up in this season, especially with the American soldier standing just off to the side. When it comes out that Ben may have been a traitor and had died for that cause, William goes in search for answers. He — and Hal Grey — can’t believe that Ben is dead, and sure enough, the body in the grave is not his cousin. So, what happened to Ben?

Whether the show will actually have the full story or not is another thing. After all, there are only 10 episodes to tell the tale. However, it makes for an interesting conflict between families.

Of course, there is plenty more to break down from the Outlander season 8 trailer, and we’ll leave it below so you can watch it over and over again for any other clues for what to expect.

Outlander season 8 premieres on Friday, March 6 on STARZ.
