The Outlander socials promised us treats throughout the 12 Days of Christmas, and it hasn’t disappointed. We’ve had the character portraits for Outlander season 8, along with the final opening credits. Well, now it’s time to turn our attention to the prequel spinoff.
Outlander: Blood of My Blood started filming during the summer, after being renewed ahead of the first season debuting. Now we have exciting news about filming, and we want to take a look at what that means for a release date.
Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 2 filming has wrapped
As part of the 12 Days of Christmas shares, the Facebook page (among other socials) dropped the exciting news that Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 2 has finished filming. There were a series of behind-the-scenes photos, telling us of the characters who will be back during that second season.
Of course, we got Brian, Ellen, Henry, and Julia, and then there were the likes of Glenna, Murtagh, and Simon Fraser. These characters have to come back. Not only are some of them the main characters, but others we know are in Outlander, so we need to see a little more of their stories after the events of the Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1 finale.
Then there’s the images of Jocasta, Ned, and Mac (Uncle Malcolm Grant). They are all coming back for storylines throughout the second season, although it’s not clear how big theirs will be. There’s also a shot of Dougal and Maura, who got married in the Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1 finale.
When could Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 2 premiere?
Now eyes are on what this means for a premiere. It usually takes around the same amount of time for post-production as it does for production. However, Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 2 filming only took around six months. Maybe a little longer. Will it really only take six months to get through post-production?
Possibly, but that doesn’t mean we can expect Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 2 to premiere in the summer of 2026. I still think we’ll be waiting until the end of 2026 at the earliest, as I’ve said before on claireandjamie.com. That’s especially the case with Outlander season 8 not premiering until March 2026.
STARZ will want to spread out its Outlander shows, especially with the flagship coming to an end next year. It still puts Blood of My Blood closer to the end of the year, and potentially into 2027 to have an Outlander show per year.
Maybe in 2026 we’ll find out about another spinoff, which could allow for 2027 for Blood of My Blood and then 2028 for a new series.
That’s all suggestion, based on the fact that STARZ is a business; again, something I’ve said before on claireandjamie.com. It needs to strategically plan its schedule, even if we don’t like it.
