Outlander Season 3, Episode 9 ratings look back: A small dip
Outlander Season 3, Episode 9 aired on this day in history. It saw a small dip in the ratings for what was a slowish episode.
After a highly anticipated episode with the second wife revealed, it’s not al that surprising to hear that Outlander Season 3, Episode 9 saw a small dip in both metrics. Here’s a look back on the anniversary of the episode.
“The Doldrums” aired on Nov. 12, 2017 for the first time. It wasn’t one of those episodes that was highly anticipated, more of a bridge between Claire and Jamie’s reunion in Scotland and the next part of the journey in Jamaica. It was an episode focused on superstitions, how humans would turn against each other, and understanding other cultures.

With all that in mind, it’s not surprising that the ratings dipped. They would have been nothing to worry about, even if the dip was also spotted in the STARZ app ratings. Remember, the TV Series Finale ratings are for the Live + Same Day viewings on the channel only.
The 2% dip in the demo really only equated for a 0.01 rating drop. It was nothing compared to the total audience, which was 8% down. Even that was still a healthy 1.492 million, just short of the Season 3 premiere audience. It would be nowhere near as low as the lowest viewership of the entire season (or entire series).
This is one of those episodes that is viewed with negativity. It didn’t seem to have much happening on the surface, but there were more internal and couple moments. This episode saw Claire and Jamie fully find their way back to each other after 20 years apart—20 years of personal growth in different directions.
The downside to the slip was that it would start a series of slips in the ratings up to the penultimate episode of the season. We’ll look at each of them over the next few weeks.
