Outlander Season 5: Caitriona Balfe gets some ‘interesting’ scene partners
Caitriona Balfe has shared a teasery update about Outlander Season 5 and her ‘interesting’ scene partners. What could this mean for the storylines?
Every year, the cast gets to work with some sort of animal (and not just Rollo and Adso). Outlander Season 5 is going to see the animal cast growing and in some ‘interesting’ ways. Caitriona Balfe shared a teaser of her scene partners for the fifth season.
Through her Instagram Stories, she shared a look at maggots. Yes, you read that right. Balfe gets to work with maggots in the fifth season. That’s not all that surprising considering Claire’s calling and the time period, but what could it mean for Season 5?

Well, it certainly means that Claire’s surgery is growing on Fraser’s Ridge. This links to Claire and Adso getting along well, because he’ll be able to help keep the surgery mouse-free. But it also means that Claire is going to get some patients.
Maggots were a necessary part of cleaning wounds in the past. They would eat the dead flesh, leaving behind the clean and healthy tissue. This means there are going to be plenty of patients in need of this type of help to prevent the risk of infection.
One of those needs could be linked to storylines leftover from “Drums of Autumn.” There’s a moment at the end of the novel where Claire is trying to help clean out injuries Roger received, especially on his feet. We could get to see some of that happen, although that would likely be at the start of the season.
What we don’t know is whether Balfe has only just started working with her “interesting” scene partners. This may be an old photo only shared now to help avoid too many spoilers for the season.
