Outlander back on night shoots in the Scottish fall
The fall has arrived in Scotland. It’s just in time for more Outlander Season 5 night shoots. That’s the update Sam Heughan has for us lately.
If you’ve been hoping to get some spoilers for Outlander Season 5, it will sadly have been a bit disappointing this summer. There have been very few leaks. And in a way, that’s a good thing. It means the show remains spoiler-free, which is something the showrunners love. However, that doesn’t mean it’s good for our patience.
Fortunately, the cast has offered some updates here and there. They’re some of the most cryptic updates ever, such as photos of goats or of the trailers. One of the most consistent updates has been when night shoots have taken place and what the weather has been like. That’s what we get from Sam Heughan in his latest Season 5 filming update.

The cast is back onto the night shoots. In the summer, these night shoots would be grueling because of the time, but the weather would have been in the cast members’ favor. Now, the Scottish fall is here and that means plummeting temperatures.
According to Holiday Weather, the average daytime temperature in Glasgow, which is close to where most of the filming takes place, is at about 61F/16C in September. That drops to 48F/9C during the night.
It’s not clear how long the night shoots will continue on for, but if the production runs into October, we’re looking at 45F/7C during the night on average. When I lived in Scotland, those temperatures felt a hell of a lot colder, especially with the rain at the same time!

Hey, at least it’s not the Scottish winter! During Season 4, some of the night shoots had to take place during the snowy months. Unless there are some freak weather patterns, Season 5 filming should be finished before the snowy weather threatens to fall.
