Takeaways from the latest Outlander photo with Roger and Bree
Roger is finally in an Outlander Season 5 promo photo and it’s about time. He’s with Brianna, and here’s what we can take from the promo image.
STARZ released a photo earlier this week showing the MacKenzie family. Roger was finally included in an Outlander Season 5 photo, and it meant the world to fans. Not only was he in the photo, but we got to see Bree and Jemmy.
Okay, officially, Roger has been in a promo photo before. He was in the Fraser family photo, released showing Jamie holding his grandson and the three time travelers standing side-by-side. However, fans couldn’t help but note that Roger was missing when it came to the promo photo shared to announce the release date of Season 5.
STARZ has made up for it with this MacKenzie family photo, and there’s plenty to take away. Here’s a look at the photo before we get into a breakdown of it.

One major note to make is that the family are at the cabin. We know that Bree was planning on heading to Fraser’s Ridge when she feared that Roger wouldn’t come back for her. This image shows that the whole family heads back there. Of course, those who have read “The Fiery Cross” knew this already, right?
They’re happy together, trying to make a life in the 18th century as a family. The Big House will be included in Season 5, so this image could be taken after that happens. As Claire and Jamie move into the Big House, Bree and Roger take over the cabin with Jemmy.
Settling into 18th-century life with some 20th-century values
As they try to make a life together, it looks like both are settling in 18th-century life. They’re following expectations of the time, with Bree doing the laundry. However, Roger isn’t quite following the expectations. After all, wouldn’t he be doing other work around the house or the land?
It looks like Roger is looking after Jemmy. He holds a guitar, suggesting that he’s not giving up on his music. It’s going to be interesting to see if the show portrays Jamie’s inability to hear music during this season as Roger continues to perform.
As for Jemmy, he seems happy enough playing with his toys. He has some wooden toys as he sits on throws and blankets to keep him warm and dry. This is a boy who will be settled in the 18th century, but I’m sure his parents won’t stop him from learning about the 20th-century ways.
Continuing with Bree and Roger’s story
Just like the books, the TV series is continuing with Bree and Roger’s storyline. They gain much more focus as the books continue. That doesn’t mean Claire and Jamie are secondary characters, but it’s time for all to enjoy the limelight.
So far, many of the promos have included Brianna in the picture with her parents. Now this photo assures fans of the books that the full story is being told and not leaving an important family out fo the picture in favor of just Claire and Jamie.
Sure, that may disappoint those who only watch for Claire and Jamie. However, if you want it to stick to the books, the MacKenzies need to play their important roles.
