Mark Barrett receives warm welcome from the Outlander fandom

One thing can be said for the Outlander fandom. It knows how to offer a warm welcome to new cast members. That’s exactly what Mark Barrett received.

For the most part, the Outlander fandom is one of the most supportive and inclusive fandoms across all TV shows. Sassenachs certainly know how to welcome new cast members to the series, which is exactly what Mark Barrett received over the weekend.

The warm welcome wasn’t just for him, though. The actor, who will get a “featured role” on the fifth season of the series, shared that his family was also invited into the world of the Sassenachs. He quickly took to Twitter at the weekend to thank the fandom for the warm welcome that he received, before sharing his appreciation for his management company.

It was the management company that shared Barrett would be joining Outlander Season 5. The same company also shared that Leonard Cook would be in the fifth season. Both times, the role has been said to be “featured” with no other details.

Now speculation is rife. Fans are trying to figure out who the two could play in the series. Current speculation is that Barrett will play Buck due to the strong resemblance to Richard Rankin. This will certainly be an important role for the character, as Roger MacKenzie goes on a major journey throughout the next few books.

However, for now, I’ll take it back to this supportive fandom. One thing I’ve noticed is that Sassenachs are certainly, for the most part, supportive and welcoming. There’s support for the casts’ other projects and for alums’ new works, and now we have more support for new cast members joining the series.
