The Outlander family has grown another cast member bigger. Mark Barrett is joining Outlander Season 5 in a ‘featured role’.

We’re constantly looking out for news on Outlander Season 5, and some has just been shared. Mark Barrett is joining the series in a “featured role.” The news was initially announced through his management company and has since been confirmed by the actor himself.

What we don’t know is who he will play. He just shared “featured role,” which suggests that it’s much bigger than just a one-off. So, we’re playing a guessing game here.

More from Casting

William Buccleigh MacKenzie is the first role that comes to mind. It would certainly be a featured role, as this is the son of Dougal MacKenzie and Geillis Duncan Abernathy. I won’t share just how important this role is to the story as there are those who haven’t read all the books yet, but he does come up in “The Fiery Cross” and will be important in Roger MacKenzie’s storyline.

However, there are many new faces popping up in Outlander Season 5. Fraser’s Ridge is growing, which means new families joining the clan. The Christies join Fraser’s Ridge during Book 5 and will likely be part of the fifth season. This family certainly causes its fair share of drama for the Frasers.

Of course, there will also be some new faces in Jamie’s militia and there’s always Governor Tryon’s army or Murtagh’s Regulators. I doubt Barrett’s role will be just a one-off somewhere in a large group of men, but there’s always someone like Lieutenant Wolff who has a slightly larger role.

Even though the casting announcement has only just been shared, it doesn’t mean Barrett has only just started filming. The show tends to be rather secretive when it comes to casting, and the announcement now certainly throws many off the trail.
