As annoyed as some are at Jeremy Hirsch’s comments, those comments prove STARZ is focused on shows for a female audience. That gives us hope for Outlander’s future.

STARZ COO Jeremy Hirsch could have phrased his comments better, but there’s no doubt that there’s some truth to them. And whatever reason you have for watching Outlander, STARZ is the perfect home for the series. In fact, the comments offer a lot of hope for the future of the series.

STARZ is focusing on a “premium female audience,” and there’s no doubt that this audience can be tricky. Women do want intelligent storylines. We need to see character and story development, while also getting the chemistry between the characters. But at the same time, there’s no doubt that some people watch it for the looks of the actors.

More from Opinion

Whatever reason people have for watching, there’s some positivity to take away from the comments about the premium cable network focusing on the female audience. While Outlander does have its male fans, Sassenachs are predominately female. This is a show for the female audience, meaning that it’s a show for those the network wants to focus on.

With this in mind, there’s hope for the future. As long as the show continues to aim towards its brand, there’s a high chance that the series will be renewed in the future. It doesn’t mean the show has to only aim at what Hirsch commented on. After all, the TV show has proven that it can keep and grow an audience with its excellent storytelling and characters.

As annoying (and offensive to some) as the comments were, I’m choosing to look at the positives about this. There’s some good to take from them for the future of the series.
