Outlander Season 5 filming was put on hold yesterday to wait out the rain. With the Scottish weather cause a delay in the production?
Caitriona Balfe gave us a hint at Outlander Season 5 filming recently, but it wasn’t really the look we wanted. Just inside a tent, she mentioned how they were waiting out the rain to continue filming. Could the rain in Scotland delay production?
I doubt it, personally. The Scottish rain is extremely common. It’s why the country looks so beautiful. The producers will be used to the rain by now. Even though filming didn’t take place in summer last season, it did take place during the colder winter period (and fall and spring are known for rain, just as much as summer!).

The production schedule will have some gaps in there. If it was too tightly packed, there would be too many risks of delays. They wouldn’t be able to work around scenes overrunning or potential problems with the set or the costumes. Knowing the weather, they’d also want to make sure there are gaps in case they need to step in a tent for a while.
It’s only the worst of the rain that will halt production for a while. When you watch the episodes, you’ll see moments where it’s clearly been drizzling. Sometimes there will be marks on the costumes or the hair will be slightly damp when it wasn’t in another frame. This is often due to the weather that doesn’t necessarily show up on camera.
So, no, I don’t think the rain will delay the production. It’s not going to prevent the season being filmed in full on time, so that early 2020 premiere date on STARZ is still the plan.
