Outlander Season 1, Episode 14 delivered an episode focused just on Claire’s search for Jamie. Here are the top lines from the episode.

Outlander Season 1, Episode 14 gave us the chance to see more bonding between Claire and Murtagh, setting up a friendship for years to come. It also delivered bonding moments for Claire and Jenny. However, the episode was mostly focused on Claire’s search for Jamie Fraser.

While it’s not a favorite episode for many, “The Search” had some important moments and lines. Here are my five favorite lines from the episode.

If you engage with the British army to rescue Jamie, then Lallybroch could face retribution from the Crown. And your Laird would not want that to happen. Especially on his account.

More from Opinion

Claire doesn’t want to get anyone involved. Whether she thought about the danger to Lallybroch right away or not, she knew that the people couldn’t get involved. Ian couldn’t get involved and that wasn’t because he only had one leg. There would be too much danger for everyone.

Despite being raised in the 20th century, Claire knew enough about history and the inheritance of land and titles to know that going for Jamie was extremely dangerous for the Fraser and Murray family. She knew that Jamie would never want to see Lallybroch in the English hands and she’d do whatever she could to honor his wish.

No, he’ll go north. Deeper into the Highlands. The garrison won’t dare stray that far from supplies and reinforcements.

Murtagh shows how much he knows Jamie. More importantly, this is likely something they’d once talked about. Who doesn’t have some sort of escape plan and let those closest to them know? I’ll admit that my husband and I talk all the time about if there’s some sort of major trouble that takes us out of the city we live in and how we’ll head north to hide and survive.

Jamie isn’t a stupid man and knows how to live off the land. He and Murtagh know that the British Army wouldn’t survive in the Highlands — the British Army know themselves they wouldn’t — so it only makes sense to head north but that means Claire desperately needs Murtagh.

It’s a bonnie tune. But you need a Scottish song.

This line didn’t stand out too much at first. In fact, I was never a big fan of the episode. However, I love now that it exists because it gave Murtagh and Claire the time they needed to bond.

Outlander Season 4 gave me a new appreciation for this episode. The “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” was the song used and Murtagh still remembered it years later. Now the admittance of the “bonnie tune” but the need for a “Scottish song” stands out and makes me smile.

Lallybroch? So that’s what this is really about? You want to control the Fraser lands. That’s what you’ve wanted all along.

Claire realizes where Dougal’s actions had been leading to all this time. He was never looking out for Jamie because Jamie was kin. Oh no, Dougal had something bigger planned.

This line has always stood out because it reminds me of the amount of foreshadowing up to this point. The novel goes into this more and offers more foreshadowing, but the TV show has just enough for this part to make a world of sense.

What I’m asking is daunting, but I know, if the situation were reversed, Jamie would come for every single one of you.

Claire decides to guilt trip the men into helping at the end of Outlander Season 1, Episode 14. The best thing is that she’s able to say all this because she knows it’s true. Everyone knows it’s true.

Jamie showed that he’d risk everything to save Claire. While they were husband and wife, it was clear that Jamie would do the same if it was any of the men. He’s loyal to family and always will be. Now they just needed to honor him in the same way.
