Will STARZ release Outlander Season 5 all at once on the app?
STARZ usually releases shows weekly on the app but that’s starting to change. Could this change be in effect for all shows in time for Outlander Season 5?
Outlander, like other STARZ shows, has been released weekly from its very first episode. Both the cable channel and the app saw the weekly drops, which will be odd for those of you who watch Netflix and Amazon Prime where the releases happen in one go. Well, things could change in time for Outlander Season 5.
This week, STARZ’s newest comedy, Now Apocalypse, released all remaining episodes on the app. Vida Season 2 will also get the same treatment in May. These are two smaller shows for the cable network and suggests that the company is testing the waters for full-season releases with shows that offer the least risk. After all, American Gods is still being released weekly.

If this works out, we could see more shows being released in full on the app. It’s worth pointing out that Now Apocalypse and Vida are still getting weekly releases on the cable channel, so the benefit is only going to be for app subscribers and could be a way to encourage more people to sign up for the app because they get something exclusive to them.
Outlander Season 5 may follow suit. If it all works out, we could get a full season drop on the app and then weekly releases on the channel. It certainly makes sense since binge-watching full seasons after release is something fans enjoy doing. Some will wait for the show to finish airing to binge-watch.
If you’re a Netflix or Amazon Prime subscriber, you’ll be used to the streaming services releasing whole seasons in one go. A subscription service releasing weekly seems a little odd and outdated.
Why is all this happening now? Well, with Chris Albrecht stepping down, Lionsgate has more control over the STARZ app (including on-demand, STARZPLAY etc.) This could have been something Lionsgate has wanted to test for a while but something that could only start happening now.
