Outlander: Should we get more of Ulysses’ storyline in Season 5?

Outlander Season 4 introduced Ulysses but we barely saw him. Should that change in Season 5?

Ulysses is a major playing in “Drums of Autumn” and beyond. He has a detailed backstory that slowly comes out, starting with some scenes between him and Brianna towards the end of the novel. Yet Outlander Season 4 never used it and this needs to change for Season 5.

While the show needs to stick to the more important moments of the story, Ulysses’ backstory will play a major role for characters later in the novels. Some of that needs to start coming out now, foreshadowing the story for the viewers for the later seasons. This isn’t something that should be left to viewers learning about in the books.

I won’t give away major spoilers, but know that Ulysses has been a part of Jocasta’s life for many years. He wants the best for her and he wasn’t always a slave.

And while I would have loved to have gotten more of Ulysses’ storyline in the fourth season, I can see why it was left out. There just wasn’t the time for it. Throughout the season, we got to see the bond between Brianna and Phraedre grow and this was, arguably, more important than getting Ulysses’ back story for this particular season.

This is why I would really like to see Ulysses get more attention in the fifth season. Despite only have 12 episodes, the first 200 pages or so is just set during one day. That could be cut down to one or two episodes, allowing for some time to be given to Ulysses.

There doesn’t need to be too much time spent on it immediately. The storyline could be managed through the odd mention here and there with some of the main characters, especially Brianna. After all, there’s still the topic of Jocasta’s plantation and how it will be left to, which is how some of the conversations with Ulysses came up.
