The latest Inside the World from the Outlander EPs gave us a look at Season 4, Episode 12. What were the messages from Providence?
After each episode, we get the Outlander EPs’ insights into the episodes. Inside the World for “Providence” looked at the minds of Brianna and Roger throughout the episode. It’s time to delve into this and cover a few aspects that may have been slightly misunderstood.
I know one of the biggest issues for many was Roger’s talk in the tent. Roger discussed how he was going to start putting himself first, which is out of character for him. And that was the point. He’s started wondering whether he should be with Brianna and whether fate is leading him to her considering everything that’s happened.

Roger tried hard to put himself first but, in the end, he couldn’t. Despite knowing what would happen to him, he had to return to help Father Alexandre. He’s just a good guy and that’s what makes everything that does happen to him so much worse.
As for Brianna, she realizes something about herself. I’ll let you watch the Inside the World featurette with Matt B. Roberts, Toni Graphia, and Maril Davis first.
This was a beautifully written episode. It’s the strongest of the season for me, showing so much depth to these two characters that we haven’t seen before. And it’s also impossible to overlook how Marsali and Fergus have grown throughout the season. They are a young Claire and Jamie, willing to risk their lives for what they know is right.
There’s far more from the characters to come, as Outlander becomes an ensemble cast.
