Eventually, storylines in fiction have to come together. That means Roger and Jamie will meet on Outlander. But will Roger ever be able to forgive Jamie for his actions?

Outlander is like any fictional series. Something can’t just happen. Storylines eventually have to come together and that means at some point, Roger and Jamie will need to meet. Once that happens, all hell is likely to break loose.

As usual, I could look at spoilers from the books, but I’m not going to. This is a post purely about the show right now and that means I’m focusing on theories and these characters we have in front of us. So, if you’re a show-first or show-only fan, you don’t need to worry about spoilers.

More from Opinion

Roger will figure out what happened to him and that it was his 18th-century father-in-law who did it. He’ll learn why he ended up a Mohawk prisoner and that Jamie had come close to killing him. What a great way to get to know your father-in-law, right?

The big question for many is whether Roger will ever be able to forgive Jamie. Will he be able to move on from what happened?

It’s not going to be easy. Roger has already had his life and limbs threatened by Stephen Bonnet. Just as it looked like he stood a chance at finding Brianna, he was beaten senseless. Roger had no idea who Jamie was and why he was being beaten. Once he learns, well, it’s not going to be easy to move on.

I keep saying I don’t blame Lizzie for her part in the mistake. And I still don’t. I am starting to see just how at fault Jamie was, though. He and Young Ian just blindly took Lizzie’s word. Sure, she was scared and had good reason to be considering what she saw, but Jamie could have just asked Roger for his name. That would have immediately cleared things up.

And that’s what Roger will likely think. He’ll know that a conversation before a beating would have prevented everything.

Roger is now a victim of violence. He currently has no idea why and part of him will be scared that it will happen again. After all, not only did he get a beating but he was made a prisoner of the Mohawk. Scared and alone, completely out of his time, he’s not going to trust Jamie.

Brianna had it right when she said Claire had to go with Jamie and Young Ian. Roger would run seeing the two men. Seeing Claire will make him stop but that doesn’t mean he’s going to be friendly towards the two that caused this.

As for forgiveness, it’s going to take a lot for Roger to be able to move on from this. And I simply don’t blame him.
