Outlander Season 4, Episode 10 delivered an emotional and powerful episode. As Brianna learns what Jamie did, Roger gets the chance to escape his Mohawk captors.
The last episode saw Young Ian take Roger somewhere after Jamie’s beating. That “somewhere” was to the Mohawks, which is where we find Roger in Outlander Season 4, Episode 10. Can he escape his captors and what happens when Brianna learns the truth?

Here’s everything that happened throughout the episode.
Brianna and Jamie bond further
The opening of the episode gives Brianna and Jamie to deepen their bond further. After riling her up, Jamie gets the chance to show her that she could have never fought her rapist. It’s a chance for her to stop feeling weak and helpless; like she played a part in her own rape.
After that, Brianna questions Jamie about his own rape. Sharing that Claire had told her everything about Black Jack Randall at Wentworth (surely Jamie should have been part of that conversation?), Jamie admits that she’s never going to forget. He also shares that getting vengeance doesn’t help in the way she wants it to.
Of course, Brianna is suffering from nightmares from the event. As she dreams of telling Roger about her pregnancy, his face changes to Bonnet and he attacks her in the dream. Lizzie is the one to wake her and in that moment, Brianna learns that Lizzie told Jamie about the wrong man.
It’s soon clear why everyone got their wires crossed. As I suspected, Brianna didn’t even realize Lizzie had seen her with Roger. She didn’t really know Lizzie knew about the rape. Those hours after the rape would more likely be a blur for her, as she tried to forget everything that happened; move on full of shock.
Now that Brianna knows what Lizzie saw, they’re both able to piece together everything that’s happened since. Roger was the one to get to Fraser’s Ridge and Brianna realizes Jamie and Young Ian did something to him.
Jamie and Young Ian realize their mistake
Angrily, Brianna wants to know what Jamie did to Roger. Murtagh quickly makes himself scarce and Young Ian tries to, but Brianna isn’t letting her smitten cousin get away with things that easily. And it’s a good idea, because when Jamie realizes the mistake he made and that Bonnet was the one that raped Brianna, Young Ian is the only one to know what he did to Roger.
Before I move on, there are a few things that I want to pick up on in this scene. I love that Claire immediately defends her daughter. As a mother, nobody would come before my children, even a husband I love dearly. If my daughters were raped, I would stand up for them, especially considering Jamie’s words.
The second thing to bring up is Jamie’s conclusions. I didn’t blame him for beating Roger, but I was disgusted at his words in this argument. Brianna tried to explain everything to him, but rather than listen to it all, he jumps to conclusions that she lied about the rape because of the pregnancy. He didn’t even consider listening to everything — to the fact that he (because of Lizzie’s understandable mistake) beat up the wrong man. I don’t blame Brianna for being so angry.
Fortunately, he feels awful for what happened, especially when he learns that Young Ian sold Roger to the Mohawks. While they may be honorable, the tribe comes from New York. That’s 700 miles to travel.
And this brings me to something else I dislike. Jamie didn’t exactly rush to the idea of getting Roger back. I don’t blame Brianna for not wanting him and Young Ian to go alone. I love that she pushes Claire to go with Jamie and Young Ian, knowing that Roger would need to see someone he knows and trusts; someone who can tend to his medical needs.
Claire doesn’t want to leave, especially since Brianna doesn’t want to have an abortion since this baby could be Roger’s. But Brianna encourages Claire to go, making it clear she’s not taking no for an answer. Jamie comes up with the idea that Brianna can head to Jocasta’s and Murtagh will take her and Lizzie there.
Jocasta meets Brianna
As Claire, Jamie, and Young Ian head off towards New York in the hope of catching up with the Mohawk to find Roger, Murtagh and Brianna get to Jocasta’s plantation. There’s a beautiful reunion between Jocasta and Murtagh, with Jocasta reminding Murtagh of how in love he was with Ellen Fraser, and then Jocasta gets to meet her grand-niece.
She doesn’t even question paternity. While she was never told about Claire and Jamie’s daughter, she warmly greets her grand-niece and offers a place to stay. We’ll pick back up with that storyline next week.
Roger escapes his captors
Meanwhile, Roger is a prisoner of the Mohawk. On the journey north, he shares with a fellow prisoner that he’s marking the days with knots in a rope and that’s he’s kept track of the landmarks. Unfortunately, the other prisoner dies on route and Roger is now alone but he won’t allow himself to die.
Along the way, he trips and is able to get free from the ropes that bind him. Roger runs through the forest, the Mohawk on his back. Once he manages to lose them, he makes his way through a part of the forest and suddenly hears the buzzing of bees.
No, not bees. The buzzing of the stones.
Sure enough, there’s a set of standing stones — the ones we watched the people building in the Outlander Season 4 premiere? — and Roger feels relieved. Feeling for the gems in his pocket, he sees two. You just know in this moment there are mixed emotions. He wanted to head back with Brianna but after everything, he needs to get to safety.
As the episode comes to a close, we see him reach out to the center stone. But, does he actually go through time?
That’s all for next week.
