Are Lizzie and Young Ian going to become a thing in Outlander?

Outlander Season 4, Episode 9 brought Brianna and Lizzie to Fraser’s Ridge. You could immediately see that Lizzie was smitten with Young Ian, but will something happen between them?

While Brianna was getting to know Jamie, Lizzie was getting to know Young Ian. From the first minute, you could tell this young, sickly girl was smitten with the teenage Murray. Will something happen between them on Outlander?

As a word of caution, there are going to be spoilers in this post from the books. I’m trying to keep them to the minimum because the show has certainly deviated from the books on numerous occasions. This shouldn’t be one of them, but you just never know!

Right now, it’s clear that Lizzie is smitten with Young Ian. He clearly likes spending time with her, but I don’t see the same connection. Considering his age and the hormones, that is a little surprising but then, this is a guy who is spending a lot of time with the Cherokees.

In the books, Lizzie is much younger than in the show and this will affect Young Ian’s views. She doesn’t start her first menstrual cycle until Book 5, but unless her health problems have prevented them, she’s old enough to have had menstrual cycles for a few years on the series. While she may have been too young for Young Ian in the books, she should be about the right age for him on the show.

It’s not all that surprising that Lizzie is smitten with Young Ian. This is the first man of about her age she’s come across on the journey and he’s clearly a good egg in the basket. Plus, she’s lived a sheltered life, so he’ll be one of the first men her age to pay her a little attention.

If anything like the books, nothing will happen between Young Ian and Lizzie. However, Lizzie is certainly one to quickly fall for guys and Young Ian is just the first she’ll be smitten by.

There is someone else for Young Ian, though. Remember his connection to Native tribes. There should be someone within them that he’ll fall for.
