This week in Outlander history: Heaven and Earth & Bree’s birthday
This week in Outlander history is special. We mark Brianna’s 60th birthday, as well as the first airing of Heaven and Earth.
Outlander history is special this week. It’s a chance to celebrate the 60th birthday of Claire and Jamie’s daughter, Brianna Randall Fraser. Since I’ve already done that, this post is about another moment that happened this week in history. The first airing of Outlander Season 3, Episode 10 occurred this time last year.
“Heaven and Earth” is certainly one of the saddest episodes of the season. As Claire and Jamie found themselves separated again, Claire had to handle a ship of sailors with typhoid fever. It wouldn’t be an easy journey, but Claire certainly did her best and managed to figure out a way to get the majority of them through.

However, there was one specific sailor who could not be saved: Mr. Elias Pound. The poor boy was just 14 and had helped Claire through the treatment of many. He became the final victim to the disease on the ship, and there would a touching moment as Claire said goodbye to him.
Meanwhile, Marsali and Fergus got some character development of their own. While I know book fans didn’t enjoy Jamie’s arc during the episode, I did. I loved that we saw this man who had just got his wife back and she was lost again. He was desperate to get her back once more, and that meant threatening mutiny.
Fergus grew into his role, making it clear in the end that he could not give into blackmail. It was clear that Jamie realized what he’d threatened against Fergus was wrong. But we got to see that Fergus and Marsali’s love story has the makings of Claire and Jamie’s. One thing I love about the show is that side characters have had more time for development.
