Outlander Season 4 spoilers: Will Aunt Jocasta be blind like in the books?
Outlander book fans know that Aunt Jocasta has lost her sight. Is that going to be the case in Outlander Season 4?
One thing I wondered when looking through images for Outlander Season 4, Episode 2 is Aunt Jocasta’s sight. Books fans know that she’s lost her sight in the novels but it just didn’t look like that was going to be the case from the promo and the images. Now we have an answer.
The loss of sight is something the showrunners are thankfully sticking with. After all, this disability will make Jocasta look weak, even though she isn’t. She’s put at a disadvantage and it affects her actions in later sections of the books.

You’ll notice that when Jocasta walks around, she tends to have someone helping her. Without knowing about the lack of sight, it’s understandable to think this is just to help steady an aging woman. However, Ulysses and others act as her guide.
During a short featurette about Aunt Jocasta, Maria Doyle Kennedy confirms that the formidable MacKenzie is definitely blind. There’s a bittersweetness to Jamie and Claire arriving at River Run because she can’t see her nephew. However, it’s important for her to have someone from home.
The featurette also tells us more about what Jocasta wants. Well, it at least teases that there’s something. In one short clip, she tells Jamie that it will be good to have someone with a mind for business. Every time the guy goes to see a family member for help, he ends up being roped in their business tasks. Will this be just like running Jared Fraser’s wine business?
We also get a hint of how Jocasta feels about Claire. This shouldn’t be that surprising.
