What makes The Wedding such a beautiful Outlander episode?

Outlander Season 1 saw possibly the best episode of the whole series. The Wedding is an absolutely beautiful episode, but what was it about the episode that made it so beautiful?

I’ve not jumped into my thoughts, best moments, or best lines for the episode yet. That’s because I’ve not had a chance to rewatch it for (what is probably) the millionth time. However, I know enough to know that “The Wedding” is one of the most beautiful episodes of Outlander.

In fact, it’s likely one of the best episodes–I’m sometimes torn between this and Season 2’s “Faith” depending on what I need from an episode. Just what exactly is it about this episode?

I can’t say for everyone else, but I can say what makes it such a beautiful episode for me. And it’s all about Jamie. I know that sounds cliche, but there’s so much that Jamie shows in this one episode.

Up to this point, we’d seen stolen looks. It was clear he felt something and the chemistry between them was there, but we didn’t get confirmation of how Jamie felt until later. This episode showed us everything; just how he felt.

For the whole episode, he focused on making the wedding day perfect for Claire. She didn’t want to get married, but he made sure it was a day for her to remember. Unfortunately, she turned up drunk and part of me views her as selfish for that. I understood why she drank, but she forgot that this was Jamie’s wedding day, too.

But the moments that made this so beautiful weren’t about Claire. They were all about Jamie, the way he got the ring, the importance of the dress, and the need for the church. Some of it was definitely for him, but he also wanted to start this marriage off just right. We got to see the lover, husband, and man he would be.

Jamie made it clear that he loved Claire. For the person he loved, he would always put them first.
