Terry Dresbach misses out on Creative Arts Emmys 2018 win

Outlander has missed out on the only win it could have gained at the Emmys 2018. Terry Dresbach was nominated for Outstanding Period Costume but missed out at the Creative Arts Emmys this weekend.

Outlander fans have every right to be disappointed. The show was only nominated for one Emmy in 2018. While Terry Dresbach certainly deserved that nomination (she deserved the win), the show overall deserved more recognition.

Unfortunately, the show missed out on the only win it could have gained. Dresbach was nominated for Outstanding Period Costume, along with her costume department colleagues, Nadine Powell and Anna Lau. They were nominated for the episode “Freedom and Whisky”, which included a number of beautiful, iconic costumes from the season.

While the Emmys aren’t until Sept. 17, the Creative Arts Emmys were held over the weekend. This was when the costumes, set designs, casting, and writing (among other creative elements) were honored.

Outlander certainly had some competition. The costumes from The Crown, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, and The Alienist were among those in the category. They are all certainly well designed and beautiful.

In the end, The Crown‘s Jean Petrie, Emily Newby, Basia Kuznar, and Gaby Spanswick, walked away with the win. They were nominated for the episode “Dear Mrs. Kennedy,” from the Netflix series.

While it is a disappointment that Outlander missed out, The Crown does have a special place in my heart so I am glad to see that the win went to a well-deserved show. It’s just disappointing that Outlander couldn’t win its own nomination.

Here’s hoping that Terry Dresbach is nominated and wins next year’s Emmys for her beautiful costumes. It will be her last chance with the series, as she will not be part of the costuming department for Outlander Season 5.
