Emmy Awards 2018: Outlander certainly deserves its period costume nomination
Outlander didn’t completely walk away from the Emmy Awards 2018 nominations emptyhanded. Terry Dresbach and co. landed a costume nomination for one special episode.
When the nominations for the Emmy Awards 2018 were announced, we were understandably upset. Outlander had been snubbed for a number of awards. This was the year we hoped that Sam Heughan would finally be recognized for his talents, right? And we sure hoped the series would have had a nomination at least. Well, fortunately, the show hasn’t walked away emptyhanded.
At the time of covering the story yesterday, not all nominations were published on the official Emmy Awards website. That’s changed now. Terry Dresbach, Nadine Powell, and Anna Lau have been named in the award for the most Outstanding Period Costume. The costumes are for the episode “Freedom & Whisky,” which was the fifth episode of Outlander Season 3. If you remember carefully, it was also the episode when the “bat dress” was created.

This isn’t the first time the trio have been nominated. They and Elle Wilson were nominated together back in 2016 for the costumes in Outlander Season 2, Episode 2, “Not In Scotland Anymore.” This was the episode with that iconic and gorgeous red dress. While they didn’t win, it was certainly an honor to be nominated.
Hopefully, this year will be a different story. There’s every chance that Outlander will get the win for the Emmy Awards 2018. With the effort and time that goes into these costumes, this is a well-deserved nomination and will certainly be an excellent win. The series is up against The Crown, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, The Alienist, and Genius: Picasso.
