E! has made a decision about this year’s People’s Choice Awards which means Outlander isn’t eligible. No matter how many times you vote, it won’t count. But why?

The People’s Choice Awards have switched time of year and network. They’re now going to be on E! and air in November, instead of in January. While this initially sounded like good news, it’s bad news for Outlander.

Sassenachs noticed that the show hadn’t been included in any of the nomination votes on the PCA website. However, there is the opportunity to write your vote in, which many have done so (including me). Well, CarterMatt reports that the show isn’t actually eligible. And it’s all because of the changes to the award season.

E! has decided that only shows that aired new episode in the calendar year are eligible. That knocks Outlander out immediately, as the Season 3 finale aired in December 2017. A number of other shows have also found they’re not eligible, including Game of Thrones.

Note that if just one episode aired in 2018, the show would have been eligible. While the likes of Grey’s AnatomySupernatural, and The Good Doctor didn’t air their premiere in 2018, they still count because some episodes aired this year.

This is going to be disappointing and annoying for many Sassenachs. After all, the last People’s Choice Awards was back in January 2017. That’s almost two years since the last awards, which should have meant Outlander would be eligible. It’s not STARZ or the show’s fault that E! decided to change the goalposts and the award date.

On top of that, there will be new episodes airing in 2018. We’ll get Outlander Season 4 on Nov. 4, which is a week before the People’s Choice Awards takes place. Unfortunately, it’s after the round of nomination voting.

This certainly isn’t the first time the show has been snubbed by awards shows. Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan weren’t nominated for any Emmys (although Terry Dresbach was for her beautiful costumes) and Heughan wasn’t nominated for a Golden Globe. Last year at the People’s Choice Awards, the show walked away with wins in all four nominated categories but wasn’t featured on the awards show!

It’s like the awards are purposely looking for a way to avoid Sassenachs at all costs. Is it time for us to boycott the awards completely? I know what I’ll be watching on Nov. 11.

The only good news is that you can show Sam Heughan some love. His movie The Spy Who Dumped Me is eligible for the movie awards.
