What does Counterpart’s release on Amazon Prime UK mean for Outlander?
Counterpart has finished its run in the States but UK viewers are only just getting it on Amazon Prime UK. Is this a sign of things to come for other Starz shows like Outlander?
Counterpart is only just coming to Amazon Prime UK. Despite wrapping its season earlier this year in the States, UK viewers have to wait until Sept. 28 to see it on the service. And it’s not going to be free for all Prime customers. You’ll need to get the STARZPLAY lineup through the new Starz channel subscription.
There are now concerns that this could be the case for future shows aired by Starz. After all, why put them for free when the company can encourage to buy the add-on subscription? One concern for readers here is what it means for Outlander.

Right now, Outlander airs the day after a new episode on Amazon Prime Video UK. It’s an awesome deal, but things may start to change. I did wonder if this would change with the new deal, but nothing was ever said by the companies.
It could be that Amazon Prime UK isn’t allowed to play the episodes the next day on the Prime UK service. Instead, everything gets moved to the STARZPLAY service. That means Prime viewers will need to pay the £4.99 per month for the access to the channel on top of their current Prime membership.
However, nothing like Counterpart should happen to Outlander. The new service was only released back in May. A limited number of shows and movies from the Starz lineup were added, including the new-at-the-time Sweetbitter and Vida. Counterpart is one of those straggler shows, maybe a sign that the channel service is working.
When Outlander airs, the show should be available on STARZPLAY right away. This could mean watching it on the same day (and at the same time if you stay up late) as those of us Stateside.
This will all depend on licensing. For example, Netflix UK still has the rights to stream Power, which is also a Starz show. That’s not leaving Netflix UK due to the current licensing agreement. If Amazon Prime UK already had an agreement in place for Outlander that this STARZPLAY one hasn’t overridden, then the show may still air just as normal.
We’ll have to fully wait and see until the show airs. There’s not long to wait now!
Outlander Season 4 premieres Nov. 4 at 8/7c on Starz.
