The ability to time travel isn’t from the Fraser line. However, could there still be something special about the family? This is one Outlander theory that could have some weight to it.

We all know that Jamie can’t time travel. Neither can Jenny Fraser Murray. However, that’s not stopped special things happening around them. It’s not stopped them from seeing things they can’t explain. One Outlander theory is that there is something special about the Fraser line.

There are some spoilers for those who haven’t read the books yet to help explain this theory. These are relatively minor spoilers, though.

Jenny saw Claire’s figure

More from Opinion

During Jamie’s wedding to Laoghaire, Jenny says she saw Claire’s specter. Jenny wasn’t able to explain it and Claire knew nothing about it — she definitely wasn’t there. She may have put this down to guilt, maybe feeling something about moving on from her sister-in-law. After all, Jenny is the one that encourages Jamie to move on.

However, it’s possible that Jenny saw the specter of her sister-in-law as a hint that Claire was still around. There is the chance she was seeing Claire in a different time period, as she thought about Claire at this important time in Jamie’s life. This may have been a partial out of body experience without her realizing, which will link to Jamie’s experiences next.

Jamie seeing his daughter

During “Drums of Autumn,” Jamie mentions that he’s dreamt of Brianna now and then. This is before Brianna steps through the stones. While he would know what she looks like from photos, he wouldn’t know what the time period is like, but he dreams of her wherever she is.

There’s a gift in here. It’s almost like an out of body experience, traveling through time. One point to support this Outlander theory is when he dreams of kissing her “diamond-shaped birthmark,” which isn’t something he’d know about from photos.

Brianna gets the second sight

This gift certainly seems to be something that passes on through the Fraser line. Brianna mentions on occasion that she’s seen people she shouldn’t know. She had no idea what Jamie looked like but knew that she was seeing him when he was in Jamaica. This takes place in “Voyager,” and it’s the moment in the show when Margaret Campbell becomes Brianna for a split second.

Brianna mentions that she sees people during her dreams. There are times that she’s seeing Claire and Jamie and times that she sees Frank. Sometimes she’s able to talk to them but others she can’t. The Porcelain Thunderbird goes into more detail about Brianna’s second sight, with snippets from “Drums of Autumn.”

This Outlander theory of the gifts could be the reason Jamie is able to be in 1945/46 (depending on which version of the book you’re reading) without traveling through the stones.
