There are talks of Sam Heughan being in line for the next James Bond. Would he make the perfect titular character? I think so!

Sam Heughan may be known as James Alexander Malcolm MacKenzie Fraser (or Red Jamie) to Outlander fans, but what about if he was known as a different James to the rest of the world? Would you be comfortable calling him Bond. James Bond?

This is possibly something that could happen. Various reports show him in the running to become the next James Bond after Daniel Craig leaves. And I definitely think Sam Heughan would make the perfect titular character.

He’s suave and good looking

More from Opinion

There’s no denying that Sam Heughan is good looking. It’s all some people talk about when discussing Outlander. His looks will work in favor for him playing Bond. James Bond is hot, suave, sophisticated, and cheeky in many cases. Sam would tick all of those boxes. Oh, and he looks good in a three-piece suit!

We’re going to see him play a spy in The Spy Who Dumped Me. This could be the one movie we need to prove that he could take on the role of the most well-known spy in the world.

He has the body

Another thing James Bond needs is a great body. He’s a spy and he does some of the most devilish stunts. This is a guy who needs to look the part to pull all that off, even if a stunt double was involved. Sam would definitely look the part.

In fact, he’d probably look more the part than some of his predecessors. You don’t have to do too much imagining of what’s underneath the suit.

He has the following

It’s never easy to put a new actor into the role of an iconic character. Remember the doubts about Daniel Craig when he was given the role? Well, there would likely be many doubters out there about Sam Heughan. For one, he has a Scottish accent naturally (although so did Sean Connery) and he isn’t overly well-known.

He will have a load of Outlander fans flocking to the cinema to see him take on the role if he got it. Then there are those who would have seen him in The Spy Who Dumped Me and Bloodshot by the time he’d play the role. Those movies should help to quell the fears and nay-sayers.

The one reason I wouldn’t want him to get the role

While I want to see Sam Heughan’s acting career take off–and I know he’s said he wants to do more movies–there’s one reason I wouldn’t want him to land the role of James Bond.

Yes, it’s all about Outlander and I’m a little selfish in saying that. There’s no way Outlander would go on without him. If the show hasn’t changed the actors to suit the time jump now, they won’t do it in the future. And unlike The Crown, the show was never pitched with the idea of changing the lead actors for the time jump. When Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe walk away from these roles, the show will be done. It really is as simple as that.
