Claire is going to get a new costume in Outlander Season 4. Now costume designer Terry Dresbach shares the real colors that the lighting and computer screens have changed.

Caitriona Balfe filmed a six-second promo for Fox Premium while dressed in her Outlander costume. It turns out Claire is getting a new costume for the fourth season, but there are many questions about the color. It’s not quite at the blue/gold dress issue (or whatever colors they were meant to be that nobody could agree on) but is a case of lighting and screens changing the look. Costume designer Terry Dresbach took time to answer a few questions.

The new costume is teal and deep red. They’re gorgeous colors together that do appear green and brown in the promo. It’s a shame the lighting hasn’t helped to catch the colors just right. Part of that will also be due to filters, which Dresbach has no control over. But she wants you to know “it’s flipping red.”

In a series of tweets, our amazing and talented Outlander costume designer tried to turn up the lights to get the exact color. It’s not quite pulled off, but here at Claire and Jamie, we’re definitely going to take her word for it. After all, she should know, right?

As always, the costume is absolutely beautiful. It’s also perfect for the time period and we can’t wait to see it in full on the screen when Outlander Season 4 airs.

Most importantly, though, this looks perfect for some of the daily things Claire will do. In the fourth season, we’ll finally see the Frasers settle down; have a place to call home. That means Claire will have a chance to be a doctor of the time and she’d certainly need dark colors for that. Deep blood red makes sense to hide any blood stains…

Just keep in mind that this costume will be reused. People complained that Claire’s “batdress” was one of the only things she wore once she returned to the past, but it was realistic for the time. Outfits were worn for days at a time because of the lack of washing facilities and difficulty in washing and drying. We should see the same this season.
