Why Outlander’s Roger is our #ManCrushMonday
Roger Wakefield MacKenzie played a big part in Outlander Season 3. Here’s a look at the things he did to make him our #ManCrushMonday for the day.
We’ll see a lot more from Roger Wakefield MacKenzie in Outlander Season 4. He plays a much bigger role in the future novels. However, we were only introduced to him in the finale of the second season, leading to a bigger role in Outlander Season 3. Those actions in the third season are what make him our #ManCrushMonday for today.
Roger is a kind-hearted and thoughtful man. Certainly a man of his time, he quickly falls for Brianna and it definitely shows. It didn’t take long for us to fall in love with him, wanting to learn more and hoping we’d see him again. Fortunately, we know we will.
He stopped everything to research

When we first met him, he was in mourning. He’d just said goodbye to the man he viewed as a father, even if he was an uncle. Reverend Wakefield had raised him as his own and that was the man Roger would always remember the reverend as.
When we picked back up with him in Season 3, his grief was barely mentioned. This was just after the reverend’s funeral, but he jumped straight into the research. Nobody would have really had to ask him. As a historian, he was more than happy to jump straight into the research and figure out who this Jamie Fraser was.
When Claire decided to stop, Roger didn’t. He was determined to find out Jamie Fraser’s fate.
He flew to America for Claire and Brianna
Claire and Brianna left, but Roger remained and he continued to search. When he finally found something, he dropped it all to give Claire the good news. There was no way of telling how Claire and Brianna would react, but this was something he needed to do. He just hoped that it would all be good news.
Of course, by going to Boston, he was around for Brianna. He could help her come to terms with the decision to let Claire go to the past; to effectively be orphaned in the way Roger felt. And he would understand her feelings and fears, making him the perfect companion.
At no point were his actions selfish. He just wanted the best for these two women he barely knew.
He gave space but was there
When Brianna needed space, he left her to it. However, he was always there the moment she decided she wanted to talk to him. The same applied to Claire. He never judged the two women for their actions and their decisions. He remained as a friendly ear, showing that he was more the reverend’s son than he would ever have likely thought.
The times someone did need to talk to him, he remained quiet but observant. It was clear he wasn’t always comfortable around others, but he made an effort and his observations helped create a bond with Brianna and Claire.
