Is My Oxford Year with Sam Heughan still happening?

An older post about Sam Heughan starring in My Oxford Year adaptation popped up again on Twitter. Now fans are curious if it’s still actually happening.

Back in 2015, Outlander actor Sam Heughan was attached to a film called Oxford. It was later called My Oxford Year, adapting the novel of the same name. The article popped up recently on Twitter and it’s led to fans wondering if this project is still happening.

Right now, it’s hard to tell. It doesn’t look like Heughan or Supergirl‘s Melissa Benoist are still attached to the movie. Hollywood productions are constantly in flux, so this really isn’t that surprising. There’s still a chance they could star, but they both have their own projects going on at the moment. Heughan has been in a number of movies recently, including The Spy Who Dumped Me, while Benoist is busy with Supergirl.

It’s worth noting that the project was planned back in 2015 before Outlander became the Starz hit that it is now. This was before Outlander Season 2 even dropped!

The reason the name of the movie has come up is because the novel has finally been released. “My Oxford Year” by Julia Whelan dropped on April 24. The novel is about a college girl, Ella, who goes to Oxford University for a year. While there, she meets and falls for a teaching assistant, Jamie, who is hiding his health problems–he has terminal cancer. The two have a whirlwind, bittersweet romance.

Heughan was set to take on the role of Jamie, the teaching assistant. I’ve got to admit that it would be hard watching him play another character called Jamie without his own Claire as his love interest.
