Starz has made a decision about one of its shows. What does the end of Ash vs Evil Dead mean for the future of Outlander?

When Starz decides to cancel, renew, or pick up a new series, there are many thoughts about what it means for other series. Ash vs. Evil Dead has been canceled after three seasons and now thoughts are on Outlander. We’re still to hear about an official renewal for Season 5 and there are some fears that it isn’t going to happen.

Does the cancellation of one show tell us any about another? Could the Ash vs. Evil Dead cancellation give us an idea of whether Claire and Jamie’s story will continue or end?

More from Opinion

While it doesn’t give us a direct view, we can make some educated guesses based on the reason for the cancellation. To be honest, it doesn’t tell us anything new.

Outlander Season 5 is still safe

The cancellation of Ash vs. Evil Dead doesn’t come as a huge surprise. Ratings for Season 3 have been extremely low, averaging 50% less compared to Season 2. The opposite is the case for Outlander between Seasons 2 and 3. Ratings for Outlander Season 3 were up by 45% compared to the second season.

This tells us that Claire and Jamie are safe for more years to come. Ron D. Moore is already certain that a fifth season is happening and Starz CEO Chris Albrecht only has good things to say.

An idea of an announcement date?

What the cancellation notice could tell us is that news about Outlander Season 5 will come soon. If not about the fifth season, a premiere date for Outlander Season 4 will hopefully be made very soon. By canceling one series, Starz has made it clear that it is looking at its lineup for the future.

Okay, technically, Ash vs. Evil Dead would have been for the 2018-2019 lineup and we already know we have Outlander for that period. That’s why it could be a hint a premiere date is on its way soon.

However, the two shows are in different leagues of their own and in different genres. What happens to one is not likely to affect another. The ratings are just an indication of what Starz expects and how it acts.
